Stress is not something we can plan, it can enter our life anytime from anywhere. Everyone encounters stress at some point in their life, and each person must find out which methods are most helpful for their own purposes. Sometimes methods after a time become less efficient. Try out some new techniques and strategies to find something else successful. There are a wide variety of methods for decreasing anxiety.
Try labeling your stress with numbers, from 1-10. A very simple issue would be rated at a stress level of one, whereas a level ten would indicate an emergency. If you do this, you won’t stress over the little things.
Become stress-free by sniffing things. There are a lot of herbs that can have a calming effect when you smell them, try lavender, thyme, rose, peppermint, or sage. In a small container you can add some popular scented oils and a bit of rock salt to create your own aromatherapy. Now when you are stressed all you have to do is take out the vial and start sniffing.
Even if you have had a very stressful day, you should never turn to alcohol as a release. Having a drink every night to ease some of your stress can lead to dependency. Alcohol is a depressant and in some cases a drink can leave you feeling more stressed out. In the worse cases, alcohol abuse can send you down the path towards a life threatening addiction.
Make certain you tell those closest to you that the stress you are feeling isn’t because of them. Often, your family, especially kids, will not understand your stress, and they will feel like it was caused by something they did. Your stress has to be something you handle, and should never be placed upon the shoulders of the people close to you.
Take the time to review your current stress-relief strategies to see if there might be a more effective way to deal with stress. Track how you respond to stressful situations over a few weeks. Review the log and note if your actions were productive. If the response was not healthy, you might want to try implementing a new coping strategy or two.
While hobbies, such as video games, are usually very relaxing, if you see yourself getting frustrated then walk away and take a break. Remember, the idea is to help clear your mind and allow you to feel more calm, not to replace the feelings of stress with equally strong frustration.
Getting stress to the point where it doesn’t affect you that much, takes a lot of preparation and a lot of soul-searching. It’s possible, if you keep in mind that you control your thoughts and that stress is only a visitor. Don’t let stress stay and you’ll be a happier person very soon.
